Tips, Tricks & Articles
5 Considerations you should know when you buy QuickBooks for the first time:
- It will most likely take you much longer than 15 minutes to be set up in QuickBooks the way your company needs.
- What information do you need to help you run your business profitably? E.g. what a job costs, the true cost of employees, which products and/or services are profitable. Knowing the information that you need to assess/analyze your business then suggests what information needs to be collected and what needs to be setup.
- It’s okay to ask for help. Sometimes it makes more sense to spend your time doing what you do best (running your business, generating income, etc.), instead of trying to figure out QuickBooks. Not to mention lost time from mistakes and poor setup (and perhaps paying much more later to get it corrected!).
- Pay close attention to the flow of what needs to happen in QuickBooks; go from step to step and click on the icon (e.g. for sales, you might start with an estimate, then invoice, then Receive payment and Make Deposit).
- QuickBooks comes with sample companies. Experiment with them so you don’t have to worry about messing up your own books and you can see how things work.
QuickBooks is a very powerful package and you will find that you keep learning new features, tips, etc. that make it more useful to you.
